Demna's Balenciaga continues to operate in its own gravitational field. The Fall 2025 collection arrived not with drama but with a kind of bleak, irresistible certainty — as if the designer had decided once and for all what clothes should do and was now simply executing that vision with increasing precision. The silhouettes were enormous, the fabrics deliberately wrong-looking, and the effect was hypnotic.
The opening sequence in oversized tailoring set the tone: shoulders pushed to their structural limits, proportions distorted with a logic that only became apparent midway through the show. This is fashion as architecture, as social commentary, as provocation — and it works because underneath the conceptual apparatus, the clothes are extraordinary.
The eveningwear in the final section showed a different register entirely: draped jersey gowns of tremendous elegance that revealed, briefly, the classical couture training underneath all the deconstruction. Demna knows exactly what he is doing, always.
The collection confirmed what Balenciaga's most attentive observers have long suspected: this is the most consistently challenging and rewarding fashion house operating today. Whether the market agrees is, ultimately, beside the point.
